Quynh Luu: Improving clean water supply capacity

(Baonghean) - Faced with the current situation of the Cau Giat Water Plant (Cau Giat Town, Quynh Luu) being outdated, degraded, and operating ineffectively for many years, in 2013, the Provincial People's Committee invested capital to implement the "Project to expand and upgrade the Cau Giat Water Plant" to meet the domestic water needs of people in over 10 communes and towns of the district.

It is known that Cau Giat Water Plant has previously invested in a water supply system that meets the standard of 3,000 m3/day/night. Serving the clean water needs of about 3,000 households in the Town and coastal communes of An Hoa, Son Hai, Quynh Thuan... However, due to the old and degraded factory, the actual capacity only reaches 2,200 m3/day and night, serving over 2,000 households. During the long hot season, many hamlets at the end of the coastal communes do not have tap water for daily life. Most people in coastal areas have to buy water from expensive water transport services. Many poor households do not have money to build tanks and buy clean water, so life is even more difficult. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quyet - Chairman of the People's Committee of An Hoa Commune (Quynh Luu) said: The commune has 2,250 households, but the water plant only supplies less than 900 households, the rest mainly buy water.

Based on those urgent requirements, in 2013 the Provincial People's Committee allowed the investment in the project to expand and upgrade the Cau Giat Water Plant. Present at the Cau Giat Water Plant construction site, we saw workers and mechanical vehicles working vigorously. Mr. Hoang Van Chuong - Director of Quynh Luu Water Supply Company Limited said: The project to expand the Cau Giat Water Plant is worth over 60 billion VND. Up to this point, the construction unit has completed over 50% of the volume. Specifically, the operation house and the integrated tank have been renovated and built, over 80% of the raw water reservoir has been dug, and over 15 km of pipelines connecting to Quynh Giang commune have been dug and installed. Important items such as the integrated tank... are all made of fresh concrete, although the cost is more expensive, but the quality and seamlessness are guaranteed.

After completing the factory, the unit continued to connect the first-level pipeline from the water plant to Quynh Ba commune and coastal communes such as Quynh Ngoc, An Hoa, Quynh Long... At the nodes and water distribution network, there are valves to cut off water and repair pipes when necessary. It is expected that by June 2015, the project to expand and upgrade Cau Giat Water Plant will be completed and put into use. The current difficulty is that the project has just been renovated and upgraded, but the old water plant still has to operate to supply water to the people. According to the design, Cau Giat Water Plant uses surface water taken from the canal to Do Luong, raw water is pumped by the first-level pump to the mixing tank. Here, the water is mixed with 5% alum solution, through modern filtration systems and disinfected with liquid chlorine. Then the second-level pump will pump clean water from the tank into the water supply pipeline network for the people according to regulations.

When the new factory is completed, combined with the old factory, it will reach a capacity of over 10,000 m3/day/night, providing domestic water for over 10,000 households in Cau Giat Town, Quynh Giang Commune and coastal communes including Quynh Thuan, An Hoa, Son Hai, Quynh Ngoc... contributing to ensuring hygiene, improving the quality of life, and improving people's health. Especially thanks to this stable source of tap water, it will promote the development of the marine industry and marine services along the coastal communes of Quynh Luu.
