(Baonghean.vn) - On August 20, the Veterans Associations of localities organized the "Exemplary Veterans" emulation congress for the period 2009-2014.

The “Exemplary Veterans” movement is the driving force to promote and improve the quality of building a clean and strong Association in terms of politics, ideology and organization, contributing to the excellent completion of the Association's political tasks. In the past 5 years, the Quynh Luu Veterans Association has admitted 2,931 members, bringing the total number of current members to 14,414 comrades, reaching 97.6% of the membership rate.

In recent years, the association at all levels has promoted studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh; helped 382 families with difficult policies with the amount of 115,100 million VND and 2,054 working days; participated in building 46 gratitude houses; supported charity work with more than 3 billion VND... Actively participating in the movement to build new rural areas, specifically, members donated 105,602 m2 of land; had 308 good production and business models, creating jobs for 606 people; had 20 professional clubs (in 10 communes) with 254 members. The association actively participated in educating the younger generation; gave gifts to children on holidays and Tet; gave gifts to 3,975 excellent students, university and college graduates with the amount of 178,691,000 VND...

On this occasion, the District People's Committee awarded 6 groups and 10 individuals; the Quynh Luu District Veterans Association awarded 13 groups and 14 individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans" in the period 2009-2014. The Congress also elected 5 comrades to attend the "Exemplary Veterans" emulation congress at a higher level.

Promoting the fine tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", in the past 5 years, the Veterans Association of Nghia Dan district has continuously devoted its strength and intelligence to participating in patriotic emulation activities and movements, contributing to the successful implementation of political and social tasks in the locality. Up to now, Nghia Dan district has 8,372 war veteran members, operating in 27 grassroots organizations. Responding to the movement of joining hands to build new rural areas in 5 years, 1,684 war veterans have donated more than 156,814m2 of land to open roads, cut down trees, demolish fences, and other works worth 2.6 billion VND, supported the construction of 17 new gratitude houses, donated 125 savings books, contributed over 767 million VND to the "Repaying gratitude" fund, the "Agent Orange Victims" fund, the "For the Poor" fund... In the campaign to contribute stones to build Truong Sa, more than 20 million VND was mobilized, supporting forces on duty to protect the sea and islands such as the Fisheries Surveillance, Coast Guard, and fishermen in the Central region with over 80 million VND...

On this occasion, the District Veterans Association awarded certificates of merit to 7 groups and 21 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the emulation movement "Exemplary Veterans" in the period 2009 - 2014. The Congress also elected 5 delegates to attend the Provincial "Exemplary Veterans" Congress.
