Quynh Luu: Launching a campaign for all people to hand over weapons and explosives

(Baonghenan.vn) - On the morning of January 12, the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district organized a ceremony to launch a campaign to mobilize all people to hand over illegal weapons, explosives, firecrackers, prohibited dangerous games and sky lanterns. Attending the ceremony were representatives of the district's departments, branches, unions, police and military forces, Quynh Thuan Border Guard Station, representatives of 33 communes and towns, and teachers and students of Quynh Luu 1 High School and Quynh Hong Middle School.

Representatives of localities, agencies and units signed the commitment at the launching ceremony.

In recent years, the propaganda and mobilization work to encourage people to voluntarily hand over weapons, explosives, illegal fireworks, banned dangerous games and sky lanterns has received special attention from the Party Committee and authorities of Quynh Luu district and has achieved remarkable results. In 2014 alone, in Quynh Luu district, dozens of citizens voluntarily handed over to authorities at all levels hundreds of types of weapons, explosives, support tools, fireworks of all kinds, and many prohibited dangerous children's toys. The district police have arrested 20 cases - 28 subjects, of which 7 cases and 7 defendants were prosecuted for illegal trading, transportation and storage of fireworks. In addition, the people have also provided valuable information about crimes in other fields to local authorities and functional agencies to promptly combat and prevent violations of the law, contributing to maintaining political security - social order and safety in the district.

However, in the past 5 years, due to greed, some people have defied the law, secretly colluding with some bad guys in the district to act as a transit point for trading, transporting, storing, and consuming firecrackers. Some young people and students still set off firecrackers during the Lunar New Year, causing political insecurity and social order and safety.

At the launching ceremony, representatives of localities, agencies and units signed a commitment with the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Luu district to seriously implement the campaign to mobilize the entire population to hand over illegal weapons, explosives, fireworks, prohibited dangerous games and sky lanterns. The period from September 15, 2014 to February 28, 2015 is divided into 2 phases, in which the peak phase is from January 1, 2015 to February 28, 2015.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the forces marched from the district cultural center along Highway 48B to Tam Mai Temple - Quynh Thuan commune.
