UMW Toyota Motor President Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said the Toyota Camry Hybrid CKD, which is the first hybrid vehicle to be assembled at the company’s Assembly Centre in Malaysia, demonstrates the company’s determination and commitment to produce cars that meet customer expectations.

Speaking at the launch, Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin said: "The group hopes to launch about 7,000 units of the all-new Toyota Camry in the last nine months of this year. During the period from 2010 to 2015, UMW Toyota invested close to RM180 million (US$50 million) in the Toyota Camry CKD project."

At the launch, UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd also launched a new assembly line at its plant in Shah Alam, Selangor. The new line has the capacity to produce 9,000 Camry units, of which 7,000 are Hybrid models, in the last nine months of the year.

Toyota will produce three models including the Camry 2.0E and 2.0G petrol engines and the Camry Hybrid 2.5HV. The Camry Hybrid 2.5HV is the first Hybrid vehicle to be assembled in Malaysia.

Mr Asmat said UMW Toyota has sold a total of 116,000 units of the Toyota Camry since it was launched in the Malaysian market in 1994.

At a press conference after the launch, UMW Toyota Motor executive chairman Datuk Ismet Suki said the new hybrid car will cost no more than RM200,000./.
