Launching the diary and notes "From the battlefield of zone 5"
On the morning of July 26, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a press conference to introduce the diary and notes of the late writer Phan Tu titled "From the battlefield of zone 5."
The book series consists of three volumes with more than 2,500 pages, not only historical, cultural, and war summary, but also has an epic quality. The book gives readers a clear picture of the fighting life of cadres, soldiers and people in the area from Quang Nam to Quang Binh during the great resistance war of the nation.
The book begins when writer Phan Tu leaves the Propaganda Department of Zone 5 to return to the plains to open the first liberated zone, Tu My (South Vietnam). The book ends when the writer finishes his arduous two and a half month journey on foot on the Ho Chi Minh trail in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh and returns to Hanoi after 5 days and nights traveling by truck under bombs and bullets.
In the massive amount of documents written about places in Zone 5, the late writer Phan Tu devoted warm pages to writing about women. There, he deeply understood and sympathized with the many difficulties of women in the midst of bombs and bullets.
The writer is also a talented enemy operative when he deeply exploits American prisoners of war, dialogues and makes them convinced and think about their actions...
“From the battlefield of zone 5” demonstrated the extraordinary working capacity of writer Phan Tu. He wrote in the difficult and deprived conditions of long days of hunger and lack of salt, in the torment of malaria, under the rain of bombs and bullets with the sweeps and ambushes of the enemy while his eyes were severely nearsighted and his hands and spine were tormented by arthritis.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Cu, Director of Literature Publishing House, said: “Writer Phan Tu is an excellent writer on the topic of war to liberate the country. His writing career is a huge legacy with a series of works rich in ideals, imbued with revolutionary beauty that have been deeply imprinted in the minds of readers through many generations. This book series of his shows the younger generations the fierce and great battle, with the pain of war, the pain of Agent Orange that we must not forget.”
