Launching to respond to the Month of Action against Drugs
(Baonghean.vn) –This morning, June 7, at the Con Cuong District Cultural Center, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee held a launching ceremony to respond to the Month of Action for Drug Prevention and Control and National Day for Drug Prevention and Control (June 26) among cadres and youth union members.
Attending the ceremony were comrade Thai Van Hang - Member of the Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Dinh Hung - Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and more than 700 Youth Union members from communes, armed forces, schools...
According to statistics, by the end of 2012, the whole province had 6,810 drug addicts, 363/480 communes, wards and towns had addicts, 15 drug lines, 44 locations, and more than 2,012 drug retail points.
In recent times, under the direct guidance of the Provincial People's Committee, the Youth Union and Association at all levels from the province to the grassroots have closely coordinated with functional departments to organize activities to propagate and educate the law on drug prevention for young people in many different forms such as: Establishing groups of friends helping friends, Youth Law Clubs; organizing young people to sign a commitment not to violate drug abuse; communicating in the form of dramatizing drug prevention... These activities have contributed to raising awareness of all classes of people, including young people, about drug prevention and the harmful effects of drug abuse. However, in reality, drug abuse is still complicated, especially the rate of young people violating drug abuse is high, posing challenges for the whole society.

At the launching ceremony, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee called on cadres and youth union members in the whole province to actively respond to drug prevention activities and perform well the following tasks: Absolutely commit not to use or try drugs; not to conceal when friends or relatives fall into drug abuse; not to transport, trade or store drugs; pay attention to organizing cultural, artistic and sports activities to push back and eliminate drug abuse, creating a healthy environment for young people; Regularly organize youth volunteer teams, youth shock troops to prevent and combat drugs; proactively advise the Party Committee, coordinate with organizations, businesses, and social centers to help young people with a history of drug abuse to reform, develop the economy, provide vocational training and job referrals, and soon have a stable life.
Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Thai Van Hang praised and highly appreciated the spirit of active and enthusiastic participation of all levels, sectors, mass organizations and a large number of young people in the rally. He called on young people to strengthen propaganda work in many diverse forms for the people, especially high-risk youth, to clearly recognize the dangers of drug crimes, especially the harmful effects of synthetic drugs; at the same time, pay attention to creating a clean, drug-free environment for young people.

The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee visited and presented gifts to the family of Mr. Bui Van Hieu - a Youth Union member who successfully quit drug addiction at home with the support of the District Youth Union.

Right at the launching ceremony, representatives of the Youth Union of the whole province signed a commitment to "say no to drugs"; more than 300 Youth Union members participated in the parade on the streets of Con Cuong town. More than 200 Youth Union members participated in collecting syringes for environmental sanitation, posting posters at village cultural houses, and distributing leaflets at traffic intersections.
Also in the morning of the same day, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee visited the successful family drug rehabilitation model of the Con Cuong town Youth Union for member Bui Van Hieu in Block 6, Con Cuong town.

In recent times, the work of preventing and combating drugs in Vinh City has always been focused on and promoted with many practical and effective action programs, contributing to significantly reducing the evils of drug addiction, smoking and injecting drugs in the area. In the first 6 months of the year, Vinh City Police in coordination with related units successfully discovered 5 major cases, cut off many drug trafficking and transportation lines, arrested 149 cases, 159 drug criminals, prosecuted 115 cases, 121 defendants...
However, the situation of crime and drug abuse in the city is still complicated, the number of drug addicts under management in the community is still high with 1,499 addicts. In addition to the number of old heroin addicts, recently a group of young people have become addicted to new types of drugs such as ecstasy, crystal meth, marijuana in dance clubs, bars, karaoke, restaurants and hotels with alarming numbers... Currently, Vinh city still has about 40 locations, 28 subjects operating in drug rings, including 3 complicated drug locations in Le Loi ward, Cua Nam ward and the North of Ben Thuy bridge.
Responding to the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control, the Steering Committee for Drug Prevention and Control of Vinh City People's Committee called on all levels, departments and sectors to step up information and propaganda work on drug prevention and control, creating a widespread movement for the entire population in the fight and prevention. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on raising people's awareness of the harmful effects of drugs on themselves and their families, towards eliminating drug abuse in the city.
