Gotu kola - A precious medicine for hot days
Gotu kola grows wild everywhere, and is now cultivated in many countries for medicinal purposes. Gotu kola's scientific name is Centella asiatica (L) Urb, to avoid confusion with many other species also called gotu kola, some of which are poisonous. People are discovering more and more valuable uses of gotu kola.
According to Oriental medicine, gotu kola has a bitter taste and a cold nature. It affects the liver, spleen, and kidney meridians. Uses: clearing heat, eliminating dampness, reducing swelling, detoxifying, and promoting lactation. It is very effective in treating summer diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, jaundice due to damp heat, difficulty urinating, hematuria, bloody stools, coughing up blood, vomiting blood, sore throat, red eyes, allergic rashes, boils, ulcers, burns, etc. Here are some experiences using gotu kola as medicine:
Sunstroke due to prolonged sun exposure, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea: Take a handful of fresh pennywort, wash, crush to get the juice, dilute, add salt to drink. Or mix pennywort juice with tapioca starch water, rock sugar to drink. Apply the pulp on the forehead and temples, tie with a towel.

Cooling and curing prickly heat, rashes, pimples...: 30-100g fresh pennywort, pounded (or ground) and drink the juice daily (if carefully blanched in boiling water). Can be combined with purslane and perilla.
Measles: Boil 30 - 60g of pennywort to drink. Can be combined with watercress...
Summer diarrhea (due to poisoning): 30g of pennywort boiled with rice water to drink.
Dengue fever: 30 - 100g fresh pennywort, decoct to drink, can add eclipta prostrata.

Breast abscess (early stage): Boil gotu kola and areca nut shell to drink. If you can drink alcohol, add a little more for better results.
Menstrual cramps and backache: Grind dried gotu kola into powder and drink 2 teaspoons (15g teaspoon) per day.
Children with anorexia, stunted growth, and loose stools: Wash a large handful of pennywort roots, let them drain, dry, grind into powder, add to porridge, or cook with rice flour to make porridge. Can be combined with yam powder.
Detoxification: (medicine, food...). To prevent accidents, only give first aid and take to the hospital early. Crush pennywort and drink the juice. Can add rock sugar.
