(Baonghean.vn) - It is currently the main season for winter vegetables, but unlike the sluggish sales of previous years, this year's green vegetables are in season and have good prices, especially vegetables used in hot pot dishes such as celery, chrysanthemum, cabbage... are in high demand on the market.

In the first days of the year, farmers in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau were busy harvesting winter vegetables. Although this year suffered many natural disasters at the beginning of the season, people together overcame difficulties to overcome the consequences, bringing about a successful vegetable crop.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau, this year planted more than 4 sao of cabbage, sharing: Although this vegetable crop is hard to produce, it grows well and yields a harvest, with an average yield of about 2 tons of cabbage per sao. With the current price of about 6,000 VND/kg, the family earns over 10 million VND/sao.

The good news is that this year's vegetable crop, people do not have to worry about the output of agricultural products or have to "dump" them as animal feed because the price is cheap like last year. On the contrary, vegetables are purchased by traders right in the field.

Ms. Nga, a resident of Dien Ky commune, Dien Chau, added: "Last year, cabbage was only 3,000 VND/kg and was difficult to sell. This year, the price is 6,000 - 7,000 VND/kg. As soon as we harvest, we sell out, so we farmers are very excited."

According to many retailers, one of the main reasons for the high demand for green vegetables is the growing popularity of restaurant services and hot pot dishes. In Vinh City alone, hot pot restaurants are springing up one after another, causing a sharp increase in the consumption of green vegetables, especially vegetables used for hot pot.

Ms. Phan Thi Kieu, a trader at Vinh wholesale market, said: "During the recent New Year holidays, dozens of tons of vegetables imported from the districts were all delivered to restaurants and eateries in the city. Especially vegetables such as water celery, chrysanthemums, cabbage, mushrooms, and tubers were sold out many days."

It is known that the price of watercress has doubled compared to the beginning of the season, from 12,000 VND/kg to over 20,000 VND/kg, chrysanthemums have increased from 2,000 VND/bunch to 5,000 VND/bunch, cabbage has increased from 4,000 to 7,000 VND/kg, and tubers such as potatoes and carrots have increased in price by about 20%.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Vinh, owner of a restaurant in Vinh City, shared: In winter, the trend of diners coming to the restaurant is usually hot pot and grilled dishes, in which hot pot is chosen by many people in parties, so the amount of vegetables imported to our restaurant has increased since the beginning of the season. Due to the high demand of customers and the fact that vegetables can be preserved in cold storage, there is no unsold goods.
