(Baonghean.vn)- Heavy rains in recent days have caused heavy damage to many vegetable fields in Quynh Luu and Nghi Loc. Therefore, at the markets, the prices of green vegetables have been pushed up by vendors.

Heavy rains have flooded the entire vegetable area of people in Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, Quynh Bang... estimated damage of about 500/700 hectares of vegetables, loss of tens of billions of dong.

Taking advantage of the rain to stop, people focused on the fields to fix and harvest some areas of vegetables that were slightly flooded to sell to the market. According to research, currently, the prices of some vegetables have increased such as: green onions 7,000 VND/kg; mustard greens 11,000 VND/kg; lettuce 2,000 VND/string... while some other vegetables remain the same price.

At the market centers in the district, vegetable prices were pushed up after the rain. Specifically, green onions were 10,000 VND/kg, an increase of 2,000 VND/kg; sweet cabbage from 13,000 VND increased to 15,000 VND/kg; tomatoes increased to 10,000 VND/kg; lettuce 4,000 VND/worm; bitter melon 17,000 VND/kg... all kinds of vegetables were pushed up by 3-4,000 VND/kg compared to before the rain.

In Nghi Loc, heavy rains over the past two days have flooded and damaged many vegetable fields in the district. As a result, the supply of green vegetables is scarce, meaning that the price of green vegetables in the markets has also increased by 30 to 50%.

Through a survey at markets in Nghi Loc district, after the rain, the selling price of vegetables such as mustard greens, water spinach, Malabar spinach, bitter melon... increased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/bunch compared to before.

More specifically, at Nghi Trung market, Quan Hanh town market, Quan - Nghi Hoa market, water spinach costs from 6,000 to 7,000 VND/bunch; mustard greens cost from 6,000 to 7,000 VND/bunch, double the price compared to normal days before the rain.

According to the traders, heavy rains have destroyed many vegetable fields, so the price of green vegetables has increased, which is understandable. Many types of herbs have doubled in price. It is forecasted that in the next few days, the price of green vegetables will continue to increase due to a sharp decrease in supply.

Tại Nghi Lộc, rau xanh được chủ hàng đẩy giá lên 30-50%.
In Nghi Loc, green vegetables are priced 30-50% higher by shop owners, and herbs are priced 100%.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai in hamlet 11, Nghi Trung commune (Nghi Loc), who specializes in buying vegetables to sell at Nghi Trung market (Nghi Loc) shared: "Due to the rain, the vegetable area is flooded, so the amount of green vegetables is scarce. Before the rain, many people imported vegetables for us. But in the past 2 days, although the price is twice as high as usual, the goods are still very scarce. I waited for a long time to buy a few dozen bunches to retail to customers."

Currently, in Nghi Loc area, there are over 256 hectares of vegetables of all kinds, grown mainly in the communes: Nghi Thuan, Nghi Hoa, Nghi Trung, Nghi Dien, Nghi Thinh, Nghi Truong.... Particularly for water spinach, each month one can earn from 2.5 to 3 million VND/sao; and mustard greens 5 million VND/sao. Compared to rice production, growing vegetables gives many times higher income. Due to the impact of prolonged rain over a large area, some vegetable areas have had their leaves crushed, causing heavy damage to farmers. However, due to the scarcity of vegetables, they are easier to sell than before.

Ms. Pham Thi Hang in Hamlet 5 is one of the households with the largest vegetable growing area in Nghi Thuan. She said: “Vegetables sell very well these days, so my family is taking advantage of the time to pick them to import to traders. The selling price has increased from 3,000 to 7,000 VND/kg.”

Faced with unusual weather conditions, localities need to direct farmers to proactively develop plans to prevent flooding. At the same time, actively take care of vegetables to ensure supply to the market, especially for the Lunar New Year 2017.
