This year's winter-spring rice crop has seen localized outbreaks of brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper in several communes.Binh Son; hamlet 6, hamlet 8 of Thanh Son commune; Khe Da, Gia Giang in Long Son; the outer plains, Yen Phuc rice paddies in Phuc Son; hamlet 5, hamlet 3 of Cao Son commune.

Rice planthoppers infest and damage rice crops at an average density of 200-300 insects/m².2, where the density is 1000 - 1500 fish/m²2, localized 3000 - 6000 individuals/m2.This phenomenon is caused by alternating sunny and rainy weather, which creates favorable conditions for aphids to accumulate and proliferate in high densities, and by inconsistent farming practices.

In many rice fields, localized planthopper infestations have resulted in outbreaks of planthoppers in clumps measuring 1-4 meters in length.2.
