Although it is not possible to reproduce the 6-1 victory like the first leg of last season, but with a 2-star victory against Schalke 04, the door to the quarter-finals is wide open for "Los Blancos" when playing at home in the second leg.

Back to the main events of the match. Real and Schalke both started the game with confidence, making the match exciting from the first minutes. There were a number of opportunities created, but the strikers of both teams were not able to take advantage of them.

In the 26th minute, Ronaldo shone at the right time, bringing the opening goal for Real Madrid. Starting from the right wing, Carvajal crossed the ball accurately for Ronaldo to jump up and head the ball, defeating goalkeeper Wellenreuther.

The opening goal helped Real relieve the psychological pressure. Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo took turns shooting at goalkeeper Wellenreuther's goal, but the brilliance of this goalkeeper meant Real still couldn't get a second goal.

In the second half of the match, Real was still the team that dominated the field. Meanwhile, Schalke continued to play defensive counter-attack, waiting for Los Blancos to make a mistake to strike the decisive blow.

In the 74th minute, Schalke 04 striker Felix Platte fired a dangerous long-range shot that beat goalkeeper Casillas. Unfortunately, the crossbar denied the German striker a goal. Immediately after, the ball was thrown out, Uchida rushed in to finish close to the goal but was also unsuccessful.

Real immediately responded with a goal from Marcelo to make it 2-0. In the 79th minute, from the left wing, Ronaldo skillfully dribbled past two home defenders and then made a favorable pass for Marcelo to defeat goalkeeper Wellenreuther.

In the remaining minutes of the match, Schalke 04 tried very hard to find an equalizer. However, the efforts of coach Di Matteo and his team were ineffective. In the end, the home team lost 0-2 to Real Madrid.

Danilo's late penalty saved Porto from defeat at Jacob Park, a result that pleased the Portuguese side ahead of the return leg at Dragao.

In the Champions League group stage this season, Porto won the ticket to continue with an unbeaten record (4 wins, 2 draws), leading Group H. Therefore, the Portuguese team is rated much higher than Basel, even when they have to play away in Switzerland in the first leg.

However, at Jacob Park last night, Basel proved they are not a team to be bullied at home.

Determined to gain an advantage in the first leg, Basel pushed up their formation to attack right after the opening whistle. After just 11 minutes of play, the Swiss team's efforts were rewarded with the opening goal by Derlis Gonzalez, who broke through two Porto defenders before finishing skillfully past goalkeeper Fabiano.

Having lost early, Porto immediately raised their squad, putting great pressure on Basel’s goal. However, the Portuguese team’s attack proved to be too unlucky, especially when goalkeeper Vaclik played impressively.

When Casemiro scored against Basel, referee Mark Clattenburg disallowed Porto's goal because he determined it was offside. This decision caused a strong reaction from Porto players.

In the second half, Porto continued to dominate, creating many opportunities. However, it was not until the 79th minute that the Portuguese representative was able to equalize 1-1. In a situation of blocking the opponent's striker, center-back Walter Samuel let the ball touch his hand in the penalty area, causing Basel to be awarded a penalty. On the 11m mark, defender Danilo calmly defeated goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, securing a 1-1 draw for Porto.

1-1 was probably a satisfactory result for Porto because in the second leg, they returned to their home stadium Dragao to welcome Basel.
