Military plane crash kills 35 Syrian soldiers
About 35 Syrian soldiers were killed when a plane carrying them crashed near an airbase in Idlib province (northwest Syria).

Xinhua news agency quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying on January 18 that the accident occurred near the town of Khashir, near the Abu al-Duhur airbase.
According to this source, the crashed plane was a medium-sized cargo plane, but did not provide further details about the incident.
Syrian state news agency SANA also confirmed the crash, saying the plane crashed while landing due to bad weather. No one on board survived.
Earlier, the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front rebel group claimed to have “shot down” the plane – believed to be carrying food and ammunition – but Syrian state media denied this.
