Military plane crash in Thailand
At least five people were killed in a Thai military plane crash on November 17.
Royal Thai Army spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree said the helicopter had a deputy regional commander and eight other officers on board at the time of the crash. The helicopter crashed about 10 minutes after taking off from an army unit in Phayao province, about 590 km north of Bangkok.
The cause of the crash is still unknown and the identities of the five victims have not yet been determined, Winthai said. Among those on board was Major General Songphol Thongjeen, who was recently promoted to deputy commander of the military region overseeing affairs in northern Thailand. The victims had just finished an inspection mission in Phayao province and were on their way to another northern province.
