Ronaldo conquers another record in Champions League

A hat-trick against Bayern in the quarter-final second leg on April 18 meant Cristiano Ronaldo became the first person to reach the milestone of scoring 100 goals in Europe's most prestigious tournament.

With a decisive brace in Real's 2-1 win over Bayern in the first leg, Ronaldo set a record of 100 goals in European Cups. But of those 100 goals, only 97 were scored by the Portuguese striker in the Champions League from the group stage onwards. The remaining three goals include one in the Champions League qualifying round and two in the European Super Cup.

And with a hat-trick in the second leg against the German team yesterday, Ronaldo became the first person in Champions League history to score 100 goals in this competition, from the group stage onwards.

Ronaldo continues to add his name to another entry in the legendary golden table in the Champions League.

The first goal of the Portuguese superstar's hat-trick came in the 76th minute when he headed the ball past Neuer, equalizing 1-1 for Real. Sergio Ramos' own goal late in the match forced Real to play extra time as the two teams drew 3-3 over two matches.

But Ronaldo was brilliant again, completing his hat-trick with a left-footed volley in the 105th minute, followed by a tap-in five minutes later. These were also his 99th and 100th goals in the Champions League.

Three goals at the Bernabeu yesterday also made Bayern Real's favourite victim in Europe's top tournament, with the striker finding the net nine times.

Real Madrid ended the match yesterday with a 4-2 (6-3 overall) win by young player Marco Asensio in the 112th minute.
