Ronaldo faces risk of 5 years in prison for tax evasion
Spain's Finance Ministry (GESTHA) supports the tax authority's investigation into the Real Madrid superstar.
Cristiano Ronaldo is accused of evading between $9 and $17 million in taxes between 2011 and 2013. According to GESTHA, Ronaldo committed three crimes of varying degrees each year, with tax evasion exceeding $680,000.
The sentence for each offence is between two and six years in prison. In total, Ronaldo could face at least five years, Marca reported.

On one hand support the accusation, but on the other handGESTHA also suggested mitigating factors for Ronaldo. Accordingly, the Real star needs to admit guilt, pay the outstanding tax and fines, and agree to let tax consultants investigate.
GESTHA also condemned the Beckham Act, which allows individuals who signed contracts before 2009 to pay lower taxes. Meanwhile, those in the priority group are still not satisfied with the tax reduction.
If Ronaldo is found guilty, the amount of tax evasion would be much larger than what Lionel Messi has been accused of. This is also not the first time that players playing in Spain have been suspected of tax evasion, including Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano.
