Red wine helps improve memory

Researchers discovered that red wine has anti-aging and memory-enhancing effects thanks to resveratrol.

Chất revesratrol không chỉ có ở trong rượu vang đỏ mà còn có trong sô-cô-la đen, nho đỏ, đậu phộng, việt quất, hà thủ ô Nhật Bản…
Revesratrol is not only found in red wine but also in dark chocolate, red grapes, peanuts, blueberries, Japanese polygonum multiflorum...

German neuroscientist Veronica Witte (University of Berlin) and her colleagues conducted an experiment on 46 overweight people. Half of them were given 200mg of resveratrol daily, while the other half took a placebo.

After six months, the volunteers were given a memory test. Doctors showed the volunteers the same list of words. After 30 minutes, those who took revesratrol were able to recall more words from the list than those who took the placebo.

At the same time, brain scans in those taking revesratrol showed more communication in the hippocampus - the area of the brain involved in memory. And blood tests showed a trend toward lower blood sugar levels.

“Our clinical findings suggest that regular resveratrol consumption in the elderly has a protective effect on cognitive function,” said Witte.

Although the study is still quite modest, this is considered the first evidence that revesratrol has a positive effect on cognition in the elderly and overweight people.

It is known that revesratrol is not only found in red wine but also in dark chocolate, red grapes, peanuts, blueberries, Japanese polygonum multiflorum...

Revesratrol has been shown to improve memory, keep the heart healthy, and fight cancer; however, it does not help people live longer.

Furthermore, Fabienne Aujard, an anti-aging researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research in France, said: “The study needs to be continued in non-overweight patients to further extend the results.”
