Previously, at around 3 a.m. the same day, a barge driven by captain Pham Van Hung (50 years old, from Long An) was carrying hundreds of tons of sand on the Dong Nai River.

At this time, on the barge were also Pham Thi Ngoc Dung (41 years old, Mr. Hung's wife) with her children Pham Chi Cuong (19 years old), Pham Van Quoc Bao (10 years old) and Ms. Dung's mother.

When the barge reached Thanh Phuoc ward, Tan Uyen town, it suddenly capsized, causing the members on the barge to fall into the river.

At that time, Mr. Hung and Cuong knew how to swim, so luckily, people helped them to shore and took them to the hospital for emergency treatment. The remaining 3 people, including his wife, youngest son and mother-in-law, were missing.

The initial cause was determined to be that when the barge was preparing to be towed to shore, it encountered shallow water, could not be controlled and capsized, leaving everyone unable to react.

Currently, dozens of officers, soldiers and many forces are still diving to search for the 3 missing people.
