Sa Pa has dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius, snowfall is 2.5 cm thick
On the morning of December 15, the temperature of minus 1 degree Celsius caused increasingly heavy snowfall on Fansipan peak and O Quy Ho pass area (Sa Pa town, Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province) at an altitude of 1,500m or higher.
According to information from the Xe Mountain Ranger Station (Hoang Lien National Park), at around 9am this morning, December 15, the snowfall has become increasingly heavy and is now about 2.5cm thick. The temperature has dropped below 1 degree Celsius, with dense fog and drizzle. All the trees and roofs here are covered in white snow.
Previously, from December 13, Lao Cai had rain, showers and scattered thunderstorms. Some days had moderate rain, with rainfall ranging from 30 to 50mm in some areas, and over 50mm in some highland areas; temperatures in the province turned colder, and the mountainous areas were completely covered by severe cold.
In mountainous areas, the temperature drops to around 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. In particular, in Sa Pa tourist area, the temperature drops sharply, possibly to 5-7 degrees Celsius (town area).
According to the Lao Cai Province Hydrometeorological Center, it is likely that on December 16, a new cold air mass will strengthen in Lao Cai, causing temperatures to continue to drop. This is a strong cold air mass, and people in mountainous districts need to be on guard against strong gusts of wind, tornadoes, and hail, which may cause harm to people and property./.
