In recent days, people living around Phu Thuong ward (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) and Vinh Ngoc commune (Dong Anh district) were amazed by the brilliant beauty of the light emitted from Nhat Tan bridge. |
The bridge is illuminated in 5 different colors with 5 main spans that light up the entire river. Nhat Tan Bridge is part of the overall Ring Road 2 project, a closed inner-city road route of Hanoi with a total length of 43.6 km. |
The project has a total investment of over 13,600 billion VND, including loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency - JICA and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government. The main part of the bridge consists of a continuous cable-stayed bridge with 5 towers with a total length of 1,500 m. |
The bridge is lit by high-power lights from 7pm to 10pm every day, each span of the bridge is illuminated by 6 to 12 lights arranged along the bridge wall. |

According to Project Management Board 85, the Ministry of Transport had planned to hold the opening ceremony in October, but then the Japanese side proposed and postponed the opening ceremony to the same time as the inauguration of two projects using ODA capital from the Japanese Government, which are the road connecting Nhat Tan Bridge to Noi Bai Airport and the T2 international terminal project (Noi Bai International Airport) in January 2015. |
The high-pressure lamps on the approach road and the bridge deck are still not lit. |
Five giant colorful arches line the bridge axis creating a brilliant image at night. |
The clouds drifting over the illuminated bridge piers at night add beauty to the scene. |
Many people living around the foot of the bridge enjoy walking on the path leading up to the bridge to admire, take pictures and enjoy the cool breeze. |

At the end of August 2014, at a meeting with Minister Dinh La Thang, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada proposed to rename Nhat Tan Bridge to Vietnam - Japan Friendship Bridge to mark a new step forward in the Japan - Vietnam friendship. Thus, it is likely that the 7th bridge across the Red River in the capital will have two names at the same time: Nhat Tan Bridge and Vietnam - Japan Friendship Bridge. |
