(Baonghean) - A day at the end of the year, returning to Chau Thuan, Quy Chau... The ancient land of Chieng Ngam winds at the foot of Pha Tay mountain, Bong 1 village appears before our eyes with stilt houses close together, and vaguely visible are sugarcane fields and green corn fields... The lives of the people in this small forest village are increasingly prosperous and prosperous...

Taking us to visit the sugarcane fields in harvest season, Village Chief Ha Van Hung excitedly said: In the past, 109 households in Bong 1 village mainly grew corn and upland rice, and this land at the foot of Pha Tay mountain was mostly abandoned. Four years ago, the Commune People's Committee had a policy to change farming practices and convert crop structures. People were able to participate in training courses and transfer science and technology to apply to sugarcane and forest planting.

With the support of loans from the State, some households have boldly converted their production land, achieving unexpected results, such as the family of Mr. Luong Van Binh, who four years ago boldly borrowed capital to invest in converting 1 hectare of land growing corn and cassava to growing sugarcane as raw materials. "Sugarcane is "suitable" to the local soil, so it grows well, does not require much care and has a good price, so each year his family harvests about 5 tons of sugarcane, earning about 50 million VND (double or triple the previous rice and corn growing); family life is more prosperous, and there are conditions to send their children to school". Sugarcane brings such good economic results, so the villagers increasingly believe and follow; many households reclaim land to increase production area. Up to now, the sugarcane fields of the Bong 1 villagers stretch along the foot of the mountain, about 30 hectares wide.

Implementing the State's policy, many households in Bong 1 village have also accepted to plant and develop forests. Up to now, the acacia area has reached over 20 hectares... Village chief Ha Van Hung boasted: People's lives are now much better, the average income per capita reaches 8 million VND/year, the village has more than ten well-off households, with an income of 1 - 2 million VND/person/month; the poverty rate is only 30%. Houses have been built more spaciously, there are no more makeshift, dilapidated houses...

Visiting Bong 1 village, our special impression is the stilt houses close together on the hillsides, mountain slopes, one after another running from the beginning to the end of the village; mothers sitting on the steps of the stilt houses weaving brocade skirts and shirts. Under those traditional roofs, beautiful customs such as: ancestor worship, funerals, weddings are still preserved and promoted, gradually eliminating backward customs; building village covenants, implementing new lifestyles in the village such as: weddings, funerals are organized simply, prohibiting free-range livestock, not causing disorder in the village, maintaining environmental hygiene, people in the village are united, helping each other develop the economy, supporting each other when the family has a happy or sad event, facing difficulties and misfortunes, helping with labor during the harvest season... The rate of households registering to implement and achieving the title of Cultural Family has increased over the years, up to now, over 80% of households in the whole village have achieved the title of Cultural Family.

The people of Bong 1 village also actively participate in village and hamlet construction movements. The whole village has 10 households voluntarily donating land to build roads, some contributing money and some contributing labor to renovate and upgrade the transportation system to serve production and life, contributing to changing the appearance of the village. The villagers have also paid more attention to their children's education; children of all families go to school at the right age, no students drop out of school, no illiterate children. Notably, from 2012 to now, 10 students from the village have passed the university and college entrance exams. In addition, thanks to the propaganda work that is always focused on and integrated into all activities, the people of Bong 1 village are increasingly aware of health care. The clubs "Mother-in-law and daughter-in-law" "No third child" ... have been maintained effectively. Up to now, most people have voluntarily gone to the commune health station for examination when sick. Family planning work is also well implemented, people are aware that having few children is good for raising children, so for 5 consecutive years the village has not had a third child...

Mr. Cam Ba Kinh - Vice Chairman of Chau Thuan Commune People's Committee said: Previously, Bong 1 village was the poorest village in the commune. After receiving support from the State Project program, loans, and training in livestock and crop farming techniques, people have gradually changed their production habits, developed the economy, and focused on developing sugarcane and afforestation. Thanks to that, in recent years, Bong 1 village has become a bright spot in Chau Thuan, and the economic life of the people has improved day by day. Currently, Bong 1 village is the first village in the commune to escape the list of difficult villages under category 135; it is a typical example of implementing the new rural construction movement associated with the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life".

In these last days of the year, the small mountainous villages have been filled with the shy color of wild peach blossoms at the foot of the mountains; Thai women are dressed in their beautiful dresses, dotting the vast green of acacia forests and sugarcane fields... That is a good impression for visitors from afar.
