E-books flip pages like paper books
Scientists at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have recently successfully developed technology that allows users to turn the pages of e-books like paper books.
The technology, called “Smart e-book reading system,” allows smartphone and tablet owners to easily flip through the pages of an e-book or browse through its content, similar to reading a paper book, making reading more convenient and realistic.

Unlike current technology and user interfaces that typically only recognize fingertip movements within the screen, the Smart E-Reader System is capable of recognizing and executing finger movements even beyond the screen. Customers can thus easily turn pages from the start screen without entering any function keys or touching the screen.
The bookmark function allows users to return to previously viewed or unread pages. In addition, the “multi-touch” system is capable of recognizing drag time, finger pressure, and finger gestures.
"I hope the new technology will contribute to promoting e-book reading as well as contribute a small part to Korea's efforts to become a leader in mobile application technology," said Professor Howon Lee, who led the research.
