Book about Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh published
Nearly 400 pages of the book are touching stories about Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh from his childhood to his 17 years as a leader helping Da Nang "change its skin".
"Nguyen Ba Thanh - a son of Da Nang" was compiled and edited by Master Nguyen Kim Thanh (Hanoi University of Culture). This is the first book written about Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, former Head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee, released on the occasion of the first anniversary of his death.
The book records stories about the leader who truly "awakened" Da Nang from the day it separated from Quang Nam province to become a centrally-governed city, to the most "livable" urban area in Vietnam.

The book was released on the first anniversary of Nguyen Ba Thanh's death. |
The book is divided into 3 parts. The focus is on the "Imprints" section, summarizing the breakthroughs of the former Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee when holding leadership positions such as the city program "five no, three yes", valuing talents or dialogues "full of Nguyen Ba Thanh's style" with many memorable sayings "if you keep exposing it, it will be exposed, the people will know everything", "officials must have a culture of shame", "cutting off the unfortunate is unforgivable"...
The book has four pages discussing the fight against corruption by Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, briefly but summarizing the uncompromising determination of the former head of the Central Internal Affairs Committee. Mr. Ba Thanh pointed out that corruption in basic construction is not in a few small iron, steel, and cement items but in the design stage of inflating the volume, colluding with construction units to pocket the difference.
Mr. Ba Thanh once affirmed "catch them immediately, don't say much" about corrupt criminals, frankly pointing out that "many officials have the habit of eating and destroying at the same time", along with evidence: "Like the story of bringing someone's old ship home, it was worth 1 dong, you came back and shouted for 5 to 7 dong. Now you're holding a pile of scrap metal to sell, but no one will buy it. We do business, we have to contribute, we have to earn money to take care of the people, but instead we eat and destroy at the same time...".
Dedicating a section to the memories of relatives or those who worked closely with Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, the author recorded interesting stories of a leader close to the people, loved by the people from the days he became the head of Hoa Nhon 3 cooperative to his "unique" actions such as meeting and talking with bad teenagers, abusive husbands, building free hospitals for poor people with cancer...
Historian Duong Trung Quoc in the Preface assessed that Nguyen Ba Thanh's most remarkable mark was what he did, changing the appearance and landscape of the lifestyle of a city that has always aimed to become "the most livable place" for everyone in nearly two decades. That city has a reasonably planned space, increasingly spacious constructions, healthy living habits bearing the "Da Nang brand"...
The historian commented: "The articles in the book are not grand. The very ordinary feelings, the unforgettable memories... of the writers - from many different social classes and professions - are fragrant sticks of incense combined into a bouquet of incense to remember the person who has just left us."
The book is published nationwide by the News Publishing House, printing 700 copies. The book introduction will take place in Da Nang on January 29.
