On the morning of December 6, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police prosecuted Ms. Pham Thi Xuan (65 years old) for murder, according to Article 93 of the Penal Code.

Colonel Khuong Duy Oanh, Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, said the autopsy results determined the cause of death of the 20-day-old victim was suffocation.

"The baby's airway was blocked," said Colonel Oanh, adding that the investigation agency determined that Ms. Xuan alone caused the incident with her grandchild.

Police said that on the evening of November 25, Ms. Xuan was watching a movie while holding her sleeping grandchild on a wooden bench in the living room. The child's mother was working in the bedroom. Her son, Mr. Thuan, went to pick up his eldest son from a martial arts class about 500 meters from their home.

When the baby woke up, Mrs. Xuan stood up and walked to lull him back to sleep. Because she was still watching TV, when she walked, she tripped and fell forward.She slipped and caused her grandson to fall to the floor. She also fell on top of the child.
