According to statistics from the National Children's Hospital, in the past week, about 10 children came to the hospital every day for pink eye. Pink eye epidemics usually appear in the summer. This year, although the weather has started to turn to autumn, many children still suffer from this disease.
Sharing in the program Daily Life (VTV2), Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Chung, Deputy Head of the Department of Ear - Nose - Throat - Eyes, National Children's Hospital, said: "The hot and humid climate with lots of rain in Vietnam, especially during the changing seasons, makes children very sensitive to the weather, with weak immunity, creating favorable conditions for viruses and bacteria to invade and cause pink eye.
Children with the disease often have symptoms such as red eyes accompanied by sneezing, pain, fussiness in young children and irritation and burning in older children. In addition, they may have cough, runny nose, mild fever, upper respiratory tract infection, and swollen lymph nodes in the ear.
In particular, this doctor warned parents not to treat their children at home. Some people buy medicine to drop, apply leaves, and steam their children, which greatly affects the treatment process and causes dangerous complications. Children need to be taken to specialized eye hospitals for early examination and treatment.
If not treated properly, pink eye can lead to complications such as keratitis and ulcers that affect children's eyesight.
To prevent eye diseases, families need to keep children clean by washing their hands and faces regularly. Children who have the disease should stay home and not go to school to avoid infecting others.
