Mistakes that make women crazy because of cracked, rough skin in winter
The fear of many women in winter is dry, cracked skin and itchy, bleeding skin. However, not everyone knows how to take care of their skin effectively.
According to Dr. Do Thi Thu Hien, Head of the General Planning Department (Central Dermatology Hospital), dry, cracked, peeling skin in winter is a disease that everyone encounters in winter. Depending on the body, some women also have "frozen" skin, rough to the touch and hands that are cracked to the point of bleeding, especially children, the elderly, and manual workers. Especially women who often have to do housework, their hands are more likely to be cracked when exposed to soap and chemicals.

“The reason is that the weather turns cold and the dry climate causes the skin to lose water faster and more. If you do not replenish water and moisturize your skin in time, the chapped skin will become worse,” said Dr. Hien.
Allergy and immunology specialist Bui Van Khanh, Tam Phuc General Clinic (Hanoi) also shared that in the dry, cold winter, the body does not sweat, and more dirt and dead skin remain on the body's surface, making the skin more susceptible to dehydration, dryness, and peeling, causing itching. Many people suffer from severe itching, especially at night, and the more they scratch, the more itchy they become without knowing the cause. Some people scratch so much that their bodies become lumpy, rough, and even bleed.
However, not everyone knows how to keep their skin moist. Dr. Hien emphasized that in winter, the first thing women need to do is to hydrate their bodies, drink lots of water, and eat lots of fruits and vegetables containing vitamins. On dry days, you need to drink more water. Every morning when you wake up, you should drink 200-300 ml of water. Every day, you should drink about 1.5-2.5 liters of water.

In addition, women need to pay attention to applying moisturizer to the face, hands and body. “Women often randomly use any moisturizer they have, or someone tells them it’s “very good”. However, each skin type needs a suitable cream,” said Dr. Hien.
According to doctors, people with dry skin are different from people with oily skin. Because if oily skin uses cream for people with dry skin (high moisture retention), it can clog pores, which is harmful to the skin. Or people with dry skin using cream for people with oily skin can cause the skin to lack moisture, still cracking.
Many women also often use the same moisturizer with their children, however, children's skin is sensitive and immature, so the moisturizers will be different from those of adults. Therefore, if women only use creams for children, the moisturizing level will not be "enough".
At the same time, you should choose branded creams from reputable stores. You should not randomly "buy" any jar of cream. If you buy fake cream, it can be harmful to your skin.
Regarding the “crazy, confusing” itchiness in winter, Dr. Khanh said that many people often “relieve the itch” by taking a hot bath. However, the itch may be reduced while bathing, but the hot water will dehydrate the skin, which can then cause more itching.
"Women need to determine whether their skin is dry and cracked due to the climate or due to skin inflammation and itching due to a medical condition. If you see that your skin is swollen, severely cracked, or bleeding, you should see a dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment with the right medicine." Doctor Do Thi Thu Hien |
