Sam Allardyce resigns as England coach after being framed by journalists

The strategist nicknamed "Big Sam" was forced to leave his dream job because of a scandal set up by a group of journalists.

The decision was made with the consensus of the parties involved, after a meeting between Allardyce and the English Football Association FA yesterday, August 27 (London time).

The FA's statement later confirmed that Allardyce's behavior was "inappropriate" for the position he held. The strategist himself, born in 1954, was also aware of this "serious mistake" and apologized.

"This has not been an easy decision, but the FA's priority is to protect the public interest in football and maintain the highest ethical standards in the game. The England manager must be in a position to demonstrate genuine leadership and at all times demonstrate full respect for the integrity of the game," the statement said.

He never won a major trophy, but he twice promoted Bolton and West Ham from the First Division to the Premier League. He also won the Third Division title with Notts County in 1998.

In 2006, Allardyce was interviewed for the England manager's job after Sven-Goran Eriksson left. However, the FA later chose Steve McClaren.

As a player, Allardyce had a relatively undistinguished career. He started out at Bolton in the 1970s, before playing for Sunderland, Millwall, Coventry, Huddersfield, West Brom, Limerick (Ireland), Tampa Bay Rowdies (USA) and Preston.
