Vinh Airport is an international airport, playing a role in connecting the air routes of the North Central region and Nghe An province with localities across the country and countries in the region.

The airport currently has a runway 2,400 m long, 45 m wide, with an asphalt concrete surface. The aircraft parking area has an area of ​​30,000 m², with 3 taxiways, of which 2 taxiways serve civil aviation activities; 7 aircraft parking positions, of which 6 are in regular operation, 1 is restricted, ensuring the take-off and landing of A321 aircraft, larger aircraft cannot take-off and landing.

Therefore, Nghe An province proposed to soon invest in expanding the aircraft parking lot and investing in a new runway at Vinh airport, contributing to the socio-economic development of Nghe An, the North Central provinces and as a backup airport for Noi Bai airport.

Responding to this issue, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho assessed that Vinh airport is identified as an airport with high growth rate. Therefore, the Ministry of Transport has a plan to expand Vinh airport to 9 parking lots.

The Deputy Minister of Transport also said that the ministry is studying the investment in a second runway for Vinh airport from now until 2020.

Regarding Cua Lo port, Deputy Minister Tho also said that in the near future, the Ministry of Transport will review the port planning once again to build a complex of general ports, container ports, logistics services, etc.
