The members of the Club are all students who love to read, have a talent for poetry, literature, painting, etc. from schools in Vinh city. To create excitement for the members, the Club's Board of Directors has built many rich, attractive and lively forms of activities in the meetings such as: Organizing book reading at the library, group activities with specific topics such as expressing feelings, thinking about the value of the work, of the character, drawing pictures according to literary characters, building new stories through comic books, building plays and performing skits, learning history according to the content of textbooks, practicing being an MC, organizing field trips, activities about the source, etc. At the same time, encourage students to compose their first works with many genres of poetry, short stories, essays, jokes, news, articles, reports, etc. about the life around them, thoughts, feelings about family, teachers, friends, etc. published in central and local newspapers and magazines.
By joining the Club, members have the opportunity to participate in writing and drawing competitions, competitions to learn about traffic safety, HIV-AIDS, children's rights, food safety, child malnutrition, and participate in creative camps of the Provincial and Central Literature and Arts Associations. These activities have helped students accumulate a lot of useful knowledge about life, culture, history, and support good study of literature, history, and fine arts subjects in school, while also creating for them the habit of reading, preserving books, and building a family library. After each meeting, there are evaluations and classifications between groups, teams, and individuals. Every year, the Board of Directors organizes awards for members who actively participate and achieve results in the Club's activities. From the initial stage of only 25 members, the Club has now attracted more than 300 students to participate in its activities.
Every year, the Viet Duc Children's House adds more than 500 new books, with special attention paid to historical books, Vietnamese and world literature, books exploring scientific knowledge... Especially since 2007, thanks to the support of Kim Dong Publishing House, the Danish Writers' Association, the Hanoi Writers' Association, the activities of the Chim Lark Readers' Club have become increasingly rich, diverse and in-depth. Every year, Kim Dong Publishing House supports thousands of books and stories to meet the reading needs of children at the library. In addition, children can also interact with artists, writers... creating excitement, enthusiasm and enthusiasm to participate in activities.
From the activities of the Club, talented children in poetry, literature and painting have been discovered and nurtured. Up to now, 55 compositions of members have been published in central and local newspapers such as Hoa Hoc Tro, Thieu Nien-Tien Phong Newspaper, Nhi Dong, Nguoi Phu Chuoc Magazine, Song Lam Magazine, Nghe An Newspaper... and 17 programs of Tuoi Hoa Magazine have been created and broadcast on NTV. Some children such as Nguyen Thi Ha An, Nguyen Thao Anh, Nguyen Viet Linh, Hoang Phuong Hang... have had excellent works at the children's literature writing camp organized by the provincial Literature and Arts Association. Most of the children who have grown up from the Club have passed the entrance exams to specialized schools in the province such as Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, Vinh University's Specialized Block... The Club alone won first prize in the 3rd "Overcoming Fate" contest in 2010 launched by Thanh Nien Magazine.
Seeing the effectiveness of the Son Ca Readers Club model, since January 2010, the City Council of Young Pioneers has directed the establishment of 4 pilot Readers Club models at 4 junior high school teams of Hung Binh, Le Mao, Nghi Lien and Le Mao primary school with the core being members of the Son Ca Club of Viet Duc Children's House. After 5 months of operation, under the guidance of the professional staff of the children's house and the head teacher, the above pilot clubs have all operated stably, achieved high quality, attracting more than 200 students to participate in activities. Starting from the 2010-2011 school year, the Council of Young Pioneers has expanded this model to 55 primary and secondary school teams in the city, creating a healthy and useful playground for children and teenagers.
