After nearly a month of launching, the photojournalism contest "Young Moments" organized by the Youth Union of Nghe An Newspaper in collaboration with the Young Journalists Club has attracted nearly 40 entries from 13 young authors. Many entries have captured moments and perspectives from ordinary daily life, leaving a deep impression on viewers...

Unlike other photo contests, the interesting thing that "Young Moments" brings to viewers is that the contest photos are introduced on a projector screen and the author directly presents about related issues such as (theme, context, characters, time, location of shooting...."). Thanks to that, the photos appear very vivid, soulful and realistic, both viewers and judges have the opportunity to learn more about the photos as well as the photographer.

Coming to the contest, in addition to the youth union members and members of the Nghe An Newspaper's Young Journalists Club, there was also the participation and support of youth union members from central and local press agencies such as Investment Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency Nghe An branch, Nghe An Journalists Association Office, Forum Magazine, Science and Life Newspaper....

It is even more meaningful when the contest is held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Therefore, young journalists have the opportunity to exchange, learn, and share experiences to improve the professionalism of press photography.

According to the Organizing Committee's assessment, the photos submitted this time are of quite good quality, rich in content, and creative themes mainly related to the activities of the Youth Union - Association - Pioneers at all levels, youth activities in studying, researching, working, creating, defending the Fatherland; and the work of young reporters during their work at the grassroots level.

To have memorable moments, young reporters did not mind the difficulties, stuck to the area, followed the events, many photos left deep emotions for viewers.

In Hoang Hao's Aspiration for Reform (Investment Newspaper), we see the image of a young man who once made mistakes and is trying hard to learn the craft of bamboo and rattan weaving to rebuild his life, his face shining with faith and goodness. Close to the flood zone, author Nguyen Xuan Hong - Science & Life Newspaper recorded the image of the team members of Nghi Yen Primary School (Nghi Loc) trying to find the remaining books and notebooks among the mess of wet school supplies after the historic flood passed. There was a slight sadness on their faces, but their eyes still shone with dreams and hopes for a better future ahead.

In the photo of Border Guard Soldiers of Tri Le Station - Que Phong helping Mong people in Huoi Moi commune build a house by author Thu Huong - Nghe An Newspaper, we can see the image of soldiers in green uniforms and sweaty shirts contributing to build a new house for a poor Mong family in the highland border area. Thus, each photo is like an affirmation of the values of each moment in today's life, as well as the belief and hope for a bright tomorrow.

Although it was the first time to organize, but with the support and help of the Party Committee, the Editorial Board of Nghe An Newspaper, the Jury tried to judge the contest "professionally", ensuring fairness, speed and accuracy. With the experience of a person who has won many awards in domestic and international photography, journalist Sy Minh (Nghe An Newspaper), a member of the Jury, sincerely shared, exchanged, and provided young reporters with useful lessons on issues related to press photography, especially news photography.

According to his assessment, among the 40 photos entered today, not all of them adhere to the theme and conditions of the contest, but still show limitations in lighting and composition, and there are no truly eye-catching and creative photos in the way they are presented.

Authenticity does not mean being easygoing in each click of the camera, but importantly, through that simple, everyday thing, what message does the author want to convey to today's life. Besides, the photo captioning is also a problem. Because with press photos, the caption is also part of the photo's content. This is also the reason why the contest's jury decided not to award the First Prize but instead awarded 4 consolation prizes, 2 Third Prizes, and 1 Second Prize.

With the work "Meeting a wounded soldier at a nursing home", young reporter Hoang Thi My Ha - Nghe An Newspaper won the only second prize and also the highest prize of the contest. The photo captured the image of young Duong Cam Tu (Poland), one of 106 overseas Vietnamese youth from 30 countries attending the Vietnam Summer Camp 2009 organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in coordination with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, feeding spoonfuls of rice to seriously wounded soldier Tran Huu Chien, 81%, at the Nghe An Nursing Home for Wounded Soldiers (located in Nghi Phong commune, Nghi Loc district). Tears of admiration and sharing rolled down Cam Tu's face, deeply moving the viewers. This warm photo also won the audience's choice award with the highest number of votes....
