In Quynh Bang, these days, on the vegetable area, farmers in the whole commune are actively preparing the land, planting vegetables with high commodity value such as bitter melon, cucumber, climbing beans... and interspersed with some other short-term autumn-winter vegetable varieties... promising high productivity and output value per unit area.

Mr. Ho Nghia Dung - Vice Chairman of Quynh Bang Commune People's Committee said: This is the main income crop of the year, currently, people are preparing seeds and fertilizers to plant winter vegetables. This year's winter crop plan in Quynh Bang is to grow 240 hectares of various vegetables (in particular, spring onions and sweet cabbage are grown twice a season), 14 hectares of onions, 28 hectares of other plants, in addition to 15 hectares of peanuts covered with nylon, 30.5 hectares of pure corn, and 70.8 hectares of sweet potatoes. However, for the 60 hectares of early winter vegetables of the whole commune (out of the total area of ​​240 hectares of winter vegetables of the commune), due to the drainage system under construction, the drainage is poor, and due to storms and rains, the early vegetables are completely damaged.

In the 2012 winter crop, Quynh Bang strives to achieve a production value of 25 billion VND. Due to the high efficiency of root crops and stable production, the area of ​​some crops has increased, such as peanuts from 56 ha to 15 ha, potatoes from 5.2 ha to 14 ha, and some plants such as cabbage and kohlrabi are also grown by many people. The current difficulty for people is the low selling price at the beginning of the season, for example, radishes used to cost 3-4,000 VND/kg, but now they are only 1,000-1,500 VND/kg.

At Mr. Ho Duc Hien's family field in Hamlet 3, nearly a dozen workers are harvesting the first batch of green onions. While quickly pulling the onions and tying them into bundles, Ms. Hoa said: It is currently the main season for onions and the price of onions is very cheap, 1kg purchased at the field costs only 2,500 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of seeds, fertilizers, and labor costs for harvesting have all increased compared to previous years, so the profit is not significant.

Many households grow radishes, as usual, at a good price, 3-4,000 VND/kg, so this year's early winter crop, many households are excited to expand their acreage and invest in fertilization. As a result, the harvested radishes are very beautiful and have high yields, but who knows, when they heard that they were Chinese radishes, consumers boycotted them, and the price dropped dramatically to only 1-1,500 VND/kg.

It can be said that the unstable consumption market, both domestic and foreign, has been mentioned a lot because our production is not proactive in terms of quantity and quality of products. In Quynh Luu, in many areas of commercial vegetable production, the products are mainly purchased by Quynh Luong traders, and the output is basically guaranteed. However, because production is not based on a contract between producers and buyers, people suffer many losses when there are fluctuations in market prices. And so, the story of "good harvest, low prices" always happens.
In addition, food safety and hygiene is a very difficult problem in vegetable production today. The process of safe vegetable production has been issued, but the organization of production and inspection and supervision of the implementation of the process are still poor, combined with the low level of education and self-awareness of producers, which has resulted in unsafe products, reducing the competitiveness of agricultural products. Currently, in Quynh Luu, with the participation of the safe vegetable growing project, many vegetable areas have been produced according to standards, but consumers still cannot recognize which vegetables are safe and as a result, many places produce vegetables according to the process, ensuring safety but are bought at low prices, not enough to cover costs, labor...
