The AAG submarine cable has just been broken for the second time in 2015. |
Mr. Lam Quoc Cuong, Director of VNPT-I International Telecommunications Company, said that VNPT is urgently implementing all options to reroute communications, minimizing the impact on customer communications.
Mr. Cuong also said that this is not the first time the AAG submarine cable has been broken, so VNPT-I has prepared a response plan, fix it, and verify the broken point to be able to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
This is the second time in 2015 that the AAG cable has been broken. Previously, at 8:05 a.m. on January 5, an unforeseen incident occurred on the AAG international submarine cable system, causing a loss of capacity of more than 110G to Hong Kong, 30G to the US, and some 2.5G channels to Singapore and Japan of VNPT.
The AAG fiber optic cable was inaugurated and put into use in November 2009, with a length of more than 20,000 km, a design capacity of 2 Terabit/second, directly connecting Southeast Asia with the US. The landing point in Vietnam is in Vung Tau. In addition to connecting Southeast Asia with the US, AAG can also connect to Australia, India, Europe and Africa through the system's landing point. In Vietnam, Internet service providers (ISPs) all use this important cable to connect internationally.
In 2014, the AAG submarine cable was continuously broken, causing serious impacts on international Internet in Vietnam. This incident was named in the Top 10 ICT events of 2014. Specifically, from March 2 to March 9, 2014, Internet users in Vietnam were affected when connecting internationally because the AAG submarine cable was undergoing maintenance.
On July 5, 2014, this submarine cable had another problem at a location 18 km from the coast of Vung Tau, causing disruptions in the provision of services by telecommunications operators in the region, including Vietnam. Not stopping there, on September 15, 2014, on the AAG international submarine cable system from Vietnam, mainly heading to Hong Kong and the US, the section in the sea near Hong Kong was broken again, causing serious impacts on Vietnam's international Internet connection.
The above situation requires Vietnamese businesses to consider other connection options to ensure that submarine cable breaks that greatly affect service usage are minimized.
