This morning, the opening of the WHO Western Pacific Conference
The 63rd World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Conference will take place from September 24-28, 2012 in Hanoi.
Recently, Vietnam has been assessed by the United Nations as a bright spot in medical achievements.
This is one of the reasons why WHO chose Vietnam as the host country for the 63rd World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Conference for the Western Pacific.
The opening ceremony is expected to be attended by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, WHO Director General Margaret Chan, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, other senior WHO officials, and 500 international and Vietnamese delegates.
Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien is the Chair of the 63rd WHO Regional Conference for the Western Pacific. Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long is the Head of the Vietnamese delegation attending the conference.
At the conference, the World Health Organization's Regional Committee for the Western Pacific, WHO's governing body in the region, will review WHO's work in the region.
Topics under discussion include the growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases, violence and injury prevention, neglected tropical diseases, tobacco control, malaria and artemisinin resistance, HIV prevention and treatment, measles eradication, health-related Millennium Development Goals and health financing.
The opening ceremony of the conference will take place on the morning of September 24, at the Hanoi Opera House. Afterwards, the conference's working sessions will take place at the Melia Hotel, Hanoi.
