The domestic help labor market in Vietnam has a huge gap due to the lack of job listings.

The Institute for Vocational Training Science Research - General Department of Vocational Training and the Center for Gender, Family and Community Development Research are consulting on 06 groups of jobs in the list of professional capacity units for domestic workers in Vietnam, moving towards completing the Skill Standards for this profession to be announced nationwide this coming August. This is the content of the recently announced Workshop held this afternoon, March 20, 2015 in Hanoi.

Accordingly, the domestic work profession is generally assessed as a profession that does housework, unrelated to commercial activities, including 06 groups of competency units: food and beverage preparation; house and garden cleaning; laundry; infant and child care; elderly and sick care; and care of pets and common ornamental plants in the family. These groups of units are divided into 22 jobs with 82 specific tasks in the family.

Discussing the research team's approach, Mr. Nguyen Quang Viet, Deputy Director of the Institute of Vocational Science Research, General Department of Vocational Training, said that many difficulties have arisen due to the very specific nature of the domestic work profession.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Viet said: “The scope of this profession is informal, the employers are families, and each family has many different needs. People have to work for many families, many regions, different regions, and customs, so it is very difficult to find common points of this profession. That is why we only identify the most common ones like the ILO's approach”.

Giving comments at the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Deputy Director of the 20/10 Vocational Training Center, Hanoi Women's Union emphasized that the list will create a basis for building vocational training programs in Vietnam in the coming time.

Agreeing with this opinion, Mr. Ngo Xuan Lieu, Deputy Head of the Labor Market Department, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs also emphasized that currently, the connection between supply and demand of the domestic labor market in Vietnam has a huge gap due to the lack of a job list. This leads to the situation where job placement centers in our country have to struggle to connect the needs. Therefore, the more detailed this set of Standards is, the more practical it will be in life./.
