The death toll from the collapse of a construction site in Pathum Thani province, bordering Bangkok, two days ago could be as high as 16, according to Thai police.

As of August 13, rescue workers said they had been able to confirm three deaths in the student housing collapse in Pathum Thani province.

Earlier, rescue teams pulled a 24-year-old man from the rubble, but police sources said the remaining 13 victims were unlikely to survive.

Police have issued arrest warrants for the two architects in charge of the project, the site supervisor and the owner of the construction company and the residential complex.

In recent years, a series of construction projects have sprung up in Thailand as the country's real estate market enters a boom period.

Authorities have repeatedly warned about lax safety standards and low wages at Thai construction sites, especially for foreign workers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

On the same day, a landslide derailed a train traveling in the mountainous region of eastern Switzerland.

The ATS news agency reported that a train operated by the local company Rhaetischen Bahn had an accident near the municipality of Tiefencastel on the line connecting the city of Chur with the resort of St. Moritz. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

Witnesses said at least three carriages derailed and one carriage crashed into a ravine. There were about 200 passengers on the eight-car train at the time of the accident./.
