Military barracks roof collapses, 13 soldiers killed

On July 13, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that at least 13 soldiers were killed when the roof of a barracks at a paratrooper training center in Omsk province, south-central Russia, collapsed.

Russian news agency TASS reported that as of 7:30 a.m. (Moscow time, 11:30 a.m. Hanoi time) on July 13, 32 soldiers had been pulled out of the rubble, of which 13 were killed, the remaining injured were taken to medical facilities.

According to Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, there are still at least 10 soldiers trapped in the rubble.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had to cut short his vacation to direct the handling of the incident and had to report the rescue work to President Vladimir Putin every 30 minutes.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that at 7:52 p.m. Moscow time on July 12 (11:52 p.m. Hanoi time), the four-story roof of the 242nd training center of the Russian Airborne Forces stationed in Omsk collapsed, trapping many soldiers in the rubble. At the time of the incident, there were 337 soldiers at the barracks.

Currently, the Russian Defense Ministry's Special Commission is continuing relief work and clarifying the incident./.
