According to the Chairman of the Viet Stamp Collecting Club, Hoang Anh Thi, this is great news for the community in general and stamp collectors in particular. The issuance of a set of postage stamps honoring General Vo Nguyen Giap is not only the wish of many stamp collectors but also the wish of the people of the whole country.
Previously, in December 2013, the Vietnam Historical Science Association officially requested the Ministry of Information and Communications to display the image of General Vo Nguyen Giap on the stamp set "Commemorating the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory" issued in May 2014.

However, the design options for the stamp set "Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (1954-2014)" have been basically completed and members of the National Advisory Council on Vietnam Postage Stamps have agreed that the stamp set focuses on depicting the image of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument.
In July 2015, the Viet Stamp Collecting Club under the Ho Chi Minh City Stamp Association continued to petition the Ministry of Information and Communications to allow the issuance of a postage stamp set honoring General Vo Nguyen Giap.
However, up to now, Vietnam Post has not issued any postage stamps bearing the image of General Vo Nguyen Giap, while some other countries have stamps depicting the General. Specifically, the stamp of the Republic of Guinea Post issued in 2007, the stamp of Uruguay Post in 2003, and the stamp of the Central African Republic Post in 2015.
