Side by side with fishermen at sea

The Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port has 03 independent Border Control Stations; there are 02 inlets, Cua Hoi and Cua Lo; managing a very large number of fishing vessels; the whole area has 679 vessels/ 3,679 workers doing business and catching seafood. The soldiers wearing green uniforms at the estuary have always been a force standing side by side with fishermen in all situations, including propaganda work to mobilize fishermen to build ATLC - SSCĐ facilities to protect security at sea.

The Border Guard Station of Cua Lo - Ben Thuy Port is stationed at Block 1, Nghi Thuy Ward, managing and protecting a 26 km long sea border, with 02 seaports (Cua Lo Port and Ben Thuy Port) and 02 specialized petroleum ports (Nghi Huong Port and Hung Hoa Port); in addition, the Provincial People's Committee has just started construction of Cua Lo deep-water port in Nghi Thiet Commune.


Besides the advantages, the work of propagating and mobilizing fishermen to build a basis for ATLC-SSCĐ to protect security at sea still faces many difficulties such as: Prolonged economic recession, inflation, high market prices, natural disasters, and epidemics continuously occurring, causing great damage to people, material and spirit of fishermen in the area. Foreign vessels violating territorial waters and fishing ground disputes are increasing, causing instability, affecting the field of protecting ANBG sovereignty and sea areas.

During the years 2008-2011, the unit proactively sent more than 96 times/235 officers and soldiers to go on fishing boats of fishermen to grasp the situation at sea and integrate propaganda for fishermen to understand Vietnam's sovereignty and sovereign rights at sea according to the 1982 UN Law of the Sea. In addition, the unit also coordinated with local Party committees and authorities (Nghi Hai, Nghi Tan, Nghi Thuy wards), Cua Lo Port to build a security team to protect the port, rearrange the security order of fishing ports in Nghi Hai and Nghi Thuy to ensure order, creating conditions for people to produce and do business. Every year, the unit coordinates with local Party committees and authorities, Nghe An Department of Aquatic Resources Protection to conduct a survey of the entire area on means of catching seafood at sea.

The whole area has 769 vehicles/3,769 workers, of which 33 vehicles/264 workers have a capacity of 90 CV or more. The unit has coordinated well in mobilizing and propagating vehicles and fishermen to participate in the struggle to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands; mobilizing fishermen to participate in the self-management team of boats, so that fishermen can create conditions to help each other at sea when bad situations occur, in order to serve the struggle to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands.


Implementing Notice 394/TB-TU of the Provincial Party Committee on transferring Border Guard Party members to temporarily participate in Party activities in Party cells in the religious areas to build local political bases, the Station introduced 04 cadres and Party members to temporarily participate in Party activities in 04 religious areas in Thu Thuy Ward, Nghi Tan (Cua Lo Town) and Nghi Xuan Commune, Nghi Yen (Nghi Loc District).


Every year, the unit organizes well the activities of visiting and encouraging families with means and fishermen working at sea who have excellent achievements in helping the Border Guard in protecting maritime border security, at the same time organizes visits and timely encouragement to families and fishermen who have risks at sea, caused by floods and storms, causing human and material damage with the amount of more than 10 million VND and timely encourages the ideology, stabilizes the people to go into production and business.


The efforts of the border guards at Cua Lo - Ben Thuy port have been recognized by many leaders. In the 2008 - 2011 period of the Border Guard Movement, the station was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Border Guard Command in 2008, a Certificate of Merit in 2009 and in 2010 was the unit that achieved the title of Determined to Win Unit, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee. From 2008 to 2010, the unit continuously maintained the title of VMTD.
