(Baonghean)Ban Lo is located in Khe Na hamlet, Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district, along National Highway 7, next to Nam Non river. In recent years, landslides right behind the houses of local residents have disrupted their lives. People always have to live in fear every time there is heavy rain and strong wind, because now many houses have cracks, at risk of collapsing at any time.

Pointing to the pig pen foundation right behind her house, Ms. Nguyen Thi Vi sadly said: “In the past, from the pig pen foundation to the riverbank was more than 10m, but now the riverbank is close to the foundation. My family had to abandon this pig pen, not knowing where to raise pigs anymore. In the past, behind the houses of families, there was a dense bamboo forest, but now it has been “swallowed” by the Nam Non River. From the beginning of Lo village to Khe Ngau, the river has eaten into the ground more than 10m… If there is no way, this rainy season, my family will have to move to another place to live!” Not only behind Ms. Vi’s house, but also in other households such as Mr. Nguyen Trong Thang, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sam, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Tran Thi Phe…, the landslide situation is also similar. The soil and rocks falling into the river have come close to the foundation of the house, creating deep ravines, forcing families to build fences for fear that children will accidentally fall into the deep river.

The Nam Non river bank has eroded close to the foot of Ms. Vi's pigsty.

Investigating the cause of the landslide, it is known that: In previous years, gold mining on the Nam Non River through Lo village took place daily, along with the flood in 2011, making the landslide situation even more serious. According to observations, from the edge of the Nam Non River to the surface of National Highway 7 is only a few dozen meters. That also means that National Highway 7 through Xa Luong commune is under serious "threat".

Mr. Luong Van Phan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Xa Luong Commune, said: The landslide affected the civil works and houses of 70 households in Lo village, of which 15 households have been relocated. During the relocation process, the commune mobilized militia forces to help and the district also allocated a budget to support each family with 7 million VND. In the immediate future, the commune will continue to mobilize families to relocate to new places. Mr. Phan added that currently, on the landslide section passing through Xa Luong Commune, the district has carried out embankments at 3 locations but the situation is still serious. Hopefully, the district government will soon have a solution before this year's flood season.
