After 4 years, a Chinese Politburo official visits North Korea
Kyodo and Xinhua News Agency reported that on October 9, Choe Ryong Hae, a close adviser to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, held talks with Liu Yunshan, China's fifth most powerful man who is visiting North Korea, after a long period of tense bilateral relations due to Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

Liu Yunshan, member of the Politburo Standing Committee and Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China, said that the friendly relations between China and North Korea have a long and glorious historical tradition and are a valuable asset for both countries.
According to Liu Yunshan, China and the DPRK need to strengthen high-level political exchanges, promote substantive cooperation in areas such as trade and economy, enrich cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and conduct closer cooperation in multilateral fields to open a new page in China-DPRK relations.
On the issue of the Korean Peninsula, Mr. Liu Yunshan reaffirmed China's principled stance, emphasizing that China firmly supports improving relations, reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas.
Meanwhile, Mr. Choe Ryung Hae said that the situation on the Korean Peninsula affects peace and stability in East Asia as well as the whole world, and declared that Pyongyang will continue to promote dialogue between the two Koreas to create a favorable environment for the country's development.
Mr. Choe Ryung Hae also said that the two countries need to cherish their traditional friendship, expressing his belief that Mr. Liu Yunshan's visit to Pyongyang will contribute to the development of this friendly relationship.
This is the first time in four years that China has sent a member of the Politburo Standing Committee to North Korea./.
