After the flood, the clean water project was abandoned.
Since 2005, clean water has reached the villages of Trung Dinh, Nam Dinh, Lien Dinh, Son Khe and Ban Chai (Chi Khe - Con Cuong). Since then, the people of these Thai villages no longer have to drink stream water or bathe in the stream. Every morning, the villagers just need to go to the alley entrance, turn on the tap to have clean water for daily use without having to carry it from a distant stream. The 5 villages have about 20 self-flowing water tanks. The total cost for the entire project in 2005 was 4.5 billion VND.

However, after the flash flood in mid-September, this billion-dollar clean water project was severely damaged and could not be used. Hundreds of meters of pipelines were swept away by the flood. Mr. Lo Thanh Vinh, Vice Chairman in charge of Culture and Society of Chi Khe commune, said: The commune government also has a plan to mobilize people to collect and reconnect the water pipes. However, the total damage to the whole commune after the flash flood in September is estimated at about 3 billion VND, so it also needs support from higher levels.

Mr. Vinh added that in addition to the clean water project, the canal system in the above villages was also severely damaged. Many areas of rice fields will have difficulty putting into production in the upcoming winter-spring crop, leading to the risk of hunger for many households in this area.
