“I admit, being here tonight has not been easy for me. There have been many times over the past week when all I wanted to do was curl up with a good book or my dogs and never leave the house again,” Clinton said.
In the November 8 election, Mrs. Clinton had more popular votes than Mr. Trump but was defeated due to having fewer electoral votes.
“I know many of you are deeply disappointed by the results of the election. So am I. I know this hasn’t been easy. I also know that over the past week, many people have wondered whether America is the country they thought it was,” Clinton said.
However, Mrs. Clinton affirmed that everything will become better when there is unity of the people. Mrs. Clinton focused on the future, calling on her supporters to “continue to participate in all aspects” of social life, emphasizing that the country needs people with passion and energy.
The former US Secretary of State urged society to continue supporting disadvantaged children, referring to one of President-elect Trump's campaign pledges to deport millions of illegal immigrants.
“No child should be afraid to go to school just because they are African-American, Latino or disabled,” Clinton said.
She also expressed concern that many children are living in fear and anxiety about the possibility of their parents being deported.
“The deep divisions in America have been exposed after the election, but listen to me, American values are still American values and the children of our country are a part of those values. Believe in America, fight for our values and never give up,” Mrs. Clinton emphasized.
