On the morning of March 21, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of defendant Luong Van Ve (born in 1977, residing in Phuc village, Don Phuc commune, Con Cuong) for murder. The victim was Mr. Lang Vi Viet, a villager of Ve.

According to the case file, at noon on December 4, 2012, after Luong Van Ve finished two bottles of wine at his house, his nephew Ve and Nguyen Cong Hoa (Hoa called Ve his uncle) went to the house of Mr. Luong Van Ngo (living in Phuc village, Don Phuc commune, Con Cuong) to continue drinking. At about 2:00 p.m. the same day, Lang Van Cao (living in the same Phuc village) invited Nguyen Cong Hoa to Cao's house to drink wine, then Ve came to continue drinking. At about 4:00 p.m. the same day, seeing that Ve was drunk, Mr. Lang Van Bang (Cao's biological father) told Cao and Hoa to help Ve home. When he left the house, Ve fell head first into the fence, bleeding from his face. Hoa went to help Ve up, but Ve took the knife he was wearing on Hoa's waist and chased Hoa and Cao away, but both escaped. Ve continued to take the knife to the house of Mr. Vi Van Nuoi, the house of Mr. Lang Vi Viet (living in the same village), and stabbed Mr. Viet once in the left chest, causing him to collapse in the yard. Ve pulled the knife from Mr. Viet's chest, walked out onto the street, and fell on the way, causing the knife to stab Ve's left thigh. Ve continued to stand up and saw Mr. Nguyen Cong Cuong (living in Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong) passing by on a motorbike. Ve took the knife and stabbed Mr. Cuong in the left side. Mr. Cuong tried to hold back the pain and drove the motorbike for about 10 meters before falling. At this time, many people immediately took Mr. Viet and Mr. Cuong to the emergency room, but due to the severity of his injuries, Mr. Viet died on the way to the emergency room. Mr. Cuong was treated in the hospital for nearly 10 days.
Upon receiving the news, Don Phuc Commune Police and Con Cuong District Police mobilized forces to arrest Luong Van Ve immediately.
At the end of the trial, the panel sentenced Luong Van Ve to 18 years in prison. In civil matters, the defendant was ordered to compensate the family of the victim Lang Van Viet (Ms. Vi Thi Loi) 66,000,000 million VND, and compensate Mr. Nguyen Cong Cuong 30 million VND. Ve is also responsible for compensating 300,000 VND (three hundred thousand VND) per month for taking care of Ms. Loi until she passes away.
