The Ministry of Health is draftingThe Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms, with the principle of taking tobacco harm prevention as the main focus, is accompanied by strict regulations such as prohibiting people under 18 from smoking and completely banning smoking in public places.

The draft Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms clearly states that it is strictly forbidden to trade in smuggled cigarettes, fake cigarettes, cigarettes that do not ensure quality and safety, and products that imitate cigarettes; and to sell or supply cigarettes to people under 18 years of age.

Acts such as using tobacco when the person is under 18 years old or a pregnant woman or selling tobacco when the person is under 18 years old, or hiring or using a person under 18 years old to sell tobacco will also be prohibited.

Smoking will be completely banned in public places such as indoor working areas, indoor production and service areas; areas with high risk of fire and explosion; on the premises of medical facilities; preschools...

The draft also stipulates that public places where smoking is prohibited but are allowed to have designated areas for smokers include vocational training facilities, secondary schools, colleges, universities and postgraduate schools; headquarters of agencies and organizations; on public transport by rail, waterway, sea...

Heads of public places with regulations prohibiting smoking are responsible for posting signs with the words or symbols "no smoking" at the prohibited places and for guiding, checking, and reminding people to comply with the regulations on prohibiting smoking at the places they manage and operate.

Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest smoking rates in the world (56.1% in men and 1.8% in women), 2/3 of women and 1/2 of children are passively affected by cigarette smoke.

According to estimates from the Ministry of Health, in Vietnam every year there are about 40,000 deaths from tobacco-related diseases, nearly four times the number of deaths from road traffic accidents.

In fact, cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, including 43 carcinogens, causing 25 different dangerous diseases such as lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, obstructive pulmonary disease, infertility...
