(Baonghean.vn) - The severe drought has increased the shortage of domestic water. In this situation, many families have had to hire workers to drill wells dozens of meters deep to have water for use. Sharing the difficulties of the people, many well drillers have reduced their prices to support families in finding water sources.

Up to this point, most of the dug wells in the western communes of Nghi Loc district have run out of water. Therefore, the need for well drilling is increasing, especially for families living in higher terrain. Some families have to drill up to 60 meters to find water. Each well costs from 10 to 20 million VND, many households have to borrow money to drill wells to have water for daily use.

Mr. Ngo Tri Hung, Hamlet 11, Nghi My Commune (Nghi Loc), has been drilling wells for more than 13 years. He said: His family invested more than 150 million VND to buy a well drilling rig. Every year, when the dry season comes, he moves the rig everywhere to serve the people. However, this year, the drought is severe, so the demand for well drilling has increased, so he joined the group to buy another drilling rig, but there are days when he still cannot meet the demand of customers.

To ensure the work goes smoothly, Mr. Hung has to mobilize all family members and hire an additional worker to look after and operate the machine. During peak months, his two rigs drill 12 wells. After deducting labor and fuel costs, he earns about 30 million VND/month, but he said that if a family is in too much difficulty, he has to reduce his help.

Mr. Hung shared: "Many households are in such difficulty that I have to give them credit until the rice harvest season to get their wages. When we meet single-parent, difficult families, we give them a discount of 1 - 1.5 million VND/well.

Currently in Nghi Loc area there are about 50 rig owners, each owner has 1-2 machines.

Mr. Ngo Van Tuan - Well driller shared: after the drill reaches a depth of about 50m but still does not find a water vein, 80% of the time the well has no water.

Mr. Le Hong Son, from Yen Thanh, also works as a well digger. Mr. Son said: Although he is from Yen Thanh district, during the dry season, almost every year he is called by the people of Nghi Van commune (Nghi Loc) to drill wells.

During the drilling process, to keep the rig operating continuously, the owner usually provides lunch for the workers. He promises to stop when there is water, no matter how deep or how hard it is. If there is no water after drilling for dozens of meters, he only asks the owner to support the cost of food and a little fuel. As for poor households, he has to reduce their expenses.

Well drillers say: Whether or not a well has water depends on the underground water source. In recent years, due to the very low underground water source in the dry season, many drilling rig owners have faced the risk of contract default. Sometimes in the same residential area, one house is separated by a fence, but one house has water while the other does not. In particular, there are times when the drill bit reaches a depth of about 50m but still does not reach the water source, then 80% of the time the well has no water.

Meanwhile, before drilling wells, homeowners and rig owners usually follow the signed contract: drilling must reach a depth of 35-60m; repairing and replacing damaged equipment within 2 months. Only when there is water can money be collected... Recently, due to the severe drought, the drilling success rate is about 80%; the remaining 20% ​​is when the rig owner breaks the contract (no water).

Well driller Ngo Van Tuan shared: "There are wells that take more than 10 days to drill. However, many times the crew members are very sad because they keep drilling but there is no water. At that time, the homeowner, the workers and the rig owner are all unhappy."
