Will ensure power supply during dry season
(Baonghean) - That is the statement of Vietnam Electricity Group - EVN this summer. In Nghe An, there are 9 hydroelectric plants in operation, actively contributing to the national power source. In the first 4 months of 2015, Nghe An's commercial electricity output reached 663.4 million kWh, an increase of nearly 9% compared to the same period last year.
Summer is the most "tense" time for the Electricity industry in providing power sources to meet customers' electricity needs, so related industries have coordinated to develop appropriate power production and supply plans to avoid power shortages.
Mr. Bang Hong Hien, Deputy Director of Nghe An Electricity, said: “Currently, the number of customers using electricity is not only increasing rapidly, but the demand for electricity is also very large. However, the consumption of electricity in our province has a very large difference between seasons and objects (about 60% of customers use electricity for consumption and lighting purposes, 30% of customers serve industrial production and 10% are other service components), which changes the load chart in the seasons of the year, such as in winter, less electricity is used and in summer, the amount of electricity used increases. Therefore, based on actual demand, the Electricity industry plans to report to Vietnam Electricity Group - EVN to supply electricity.
This summer, according to EVN, it will also mobilize power sources to meet the province's power needs and thus there will be no power shortages. Customers and residents can rest assured that EVN will mobilize power sources to ensure timely supply of electricity during the summer in Nghe An, but this does not mean wasteful use, and it is necessary to practice saving electricity.

Repair and upgrade the power grid in Vinh City. |
In the first 4 months of 2015, Nghe An Electricity received more than 595.3 million kWh (in the first 4 months of 2014, it was 550 million kWh) and according to the Electricity industry's forecast, in the 3 peak months of Summer (from May to July), the demand for electricity consumption will be about 750 million kWh, in which in Vinh City, the demand for electricity will increase the most.
Currently, Vinh City has 617 power transformer stations and to serve the increasing demand of customers, it is necessary to build about 80 more transformer stations, but the difficulty is the lack of locations to build power transformer stations. In order to promptly serve customers with electricity during the peak season, Vinh City Electricity has implemented projects under the urgent program to prevent overload in the summer, which is to rotate 25 transformers, install 8 new stations and pull 29,000m of additional low-voltage cables. Currently, 3 new power lines with a length of 20km are being deployed from Ben Thuy to the Provincial People's Committee, from Hung Hoa to Hung Loc and to Military Hospital 4, but at some construction sites, there are problems with site clearance, affecting the progress of the project and the urgent program to prevent overload in the summer.
Northern Power Corporation – EVN has also invested in the construction and installation of high-voltage lines in Yen Thanh and some other key areas. Along with that, Nghe An Power Company invested a large amount of capital in transferring, upgrading and installing 120 new transformer stations in districts, towns and cities, and at the same time invested in 10 new medium-voltage power lines of 40 km in Yen Thanh (5 lines) and Hoang Mai Town (5 lines)…
Currently, the province has 9 hydropower plants in operation, thanks to which in the first 4 months of 2015, the commercial electricity output reached 663.4 million kWh (an increase of nearly 9% compared to the same period last year). With that output, it contributes positively to ensuring a stable power source with high quality and in the coming time, there will be a number of more hydropower plants in operation, providing more electricity output to the national grid system.
However, according to experts in the Electricity industry, although the power supply is guaranteed, due to the lack of synchronous investment in infrastructure, especially in rural areas, when the amount of electricity consumed increases suddenly, the risk of overloading incidents leading to local power outages is very high. Therefore, people need to increase electricity savings to avoid power outages during hot days. In addition, the Electricity industry needs to continue to invest in synchronous development of technical infrastructure, promptly meeting customer requirements, especially this summer.
