Sub-publications that do not comply with the purpose and objectives will be removed.
That is the emphasis of Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan on the orientation of media development in the coming time.
In 2015, the Ministry of Information and Communications continued to strengthen State management in all areas such as press, publishing, post, telecommunications, information technology, ensuring information security, etc. At the same time, it completed the project on Planning for Press Development and Management until 2025 and submitted it to the Politburo.
VOV reporter interviewed Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan about the orientation of media development in the coming time.
PV: Sir, one of the issues of concern in the information and communication industry today is the press planning until 2025. Can you tell us specifically about the content of this project?
Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan: The planning for press development and management until 2025 has been presented by the Party Committee and the Government to the 10th Central Conference. Currently, the Ministry of Information and Communications is consulting to complete it to submit to the Politburo in the coming time. This is a very important content that the Central Conference is paying attention to orienting so that the press can develop healthily and in the right direction.

The project for planning press development and management until 2025 emphasizes that development must go hand in hand with good management. Many people simply think that the project is just a reorganization of the press. It is true that the press is reorganized, but it is arranged on the basis of making the press develop more strongly and in the right direction, and provide more complete and accurate information to the people. Our press is revolutionary press. The press must be the mouthpiece and forum of the people, raising issues that people care about and bringing the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's policies to the people. Therefore, the press must be objective, honest and quick in providing information.
PV: Currently, the country has over 800 press agencies. According to the press development and management planning project until 2025, how will the rearrangement be implemented, sir?
Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan: The press is developing in the context of the strong development of social networks globally as today, so it must keep up with that trend. Therefore, it is necessary to build multimedia press agencies. Currently, we already have multimedia press agencies. For example, the Voice of Vietnam has all four types of press: spoken press, visual press, print press, and electronic press. Many other press agencies also have 2-3 types. The press needs to develop in time with the development of science and technology.
In addition, the Ministry of Information and Communications also reorganizes in the direction that we remove what is not needed. Because currently, there is a situation where a press agency has one main publication but has too many subsidiary publications. Those subsidiary publications are divided into many more publications. The main publication is in line with its principles and purposes, but the subsidiary publications deviate from those principles and purposes. If any subsidiary publication is not in line with its principles and purposes and is no longer necessary, we must eliminate it.
In addition, many press agencies have overlapping and duplicated content. For the same information, many press agencies take from their colleagues to claim it as their own in an excessive way, violating copyright and must also be dealt with. There are localities and agencies with too many press agencies, so the information content is misoriented and duplicated.
PV: The explosive development of information technology has created new forms of media and news. So, in your opinion, what opportunities and challenges do these new forms create for the press today?
Deputy Minister Truong Minh Tuan: The Internet and social networks are increasingly developing. This is a common trend in the world. Vietnam is no exception. We can see that the Internet and social networks in Vietnam are developing very strongly. This is an opportunity to access information in the fastest, most sensitive and comprehensive way. People can grasp information in a moment right after an event occurs in a very far away location, even in the world.
With the development of the internet and social networks, the world has become a flat world. However, that also poses challenges for management. This is also one of the important tasks that the information and communication industry set out in 2015. How to manage so that harmful information does not penetrate. For bad and harmful information, we must have measures such as providing more accurate information, information must go first... only then can we prevent harmful information. In the field of information, information that goes first is more beneficial information. Therefore, press agencies must proactively provide accurate information as quickly as possible to all people. State agencies and Party agencies must also proactively provide information, especially in areas that are closely related and practical to the people, and must proactively provide information so that people can understand better.
PV: Yes, thank you, Deputy Minister./.
