Will conduct surprise safety checks on Vietnamese aircraft
Regarding the recent safety incidents with the Boeing 737-300 aircraft of American Airlines, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will conduct a review of all aircraft and conduct surprise safety checks of all Vietnamese airlines.
These are considered the latest moves by Vietnam Airlines with preventive measures to resolve unusual flight safety issues and avoid incidents like what happened to the US Boeing 737-300.
Inspection of aircraft will be carried out according to specific technical requirements.
of the professional body.
Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh - Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said: "The Authority has not sent a notice to Vietnamese airlines but will increase surprise inspections of flight safety. In the immediate future, if there is a request for inspection and review, it will focus on maintenance issues and unusual flight safety requirements. To serve the inspection of flight safety for Vietnamese aircraft, the Authority is requesting the specialized agency, the Flight Standards and Safety Department, to issue a request for specific technical standards for airlines operating similar types of aircraft and issue it in the next few days."
Regarding the safety of the aircraft types currently in operation in Vietnam, Mr. Thanh assessed: “Currently, airlines still strictly follow the maintenance programs of the manufacturers. Up to now, Vietnamese aircraft have not shown any abnormal signs in the shell like aircraft in the US. In fact, the technical requirements set forth by the specialized unit are only an ad hoc measure, the most important issue is that airlines must comply with the maintenance requirements of the manufacturers.”
However, Mr. Thanh said: "The consecutive incidents with US aircraft make any country pay attention and look into its own flight activities to come up with appropriate solutions and management methods to tighten aviation security issues."
It is known that the fleet of Vietnamese airlines currently operating has about 100 aircraft, but only Boeing 737-400, no Boeing 737-300 aircraft. The general lifespan of Vietnamese aircraft is still young, the average lifespan is about 6-7 years, the longest is Airbus A320 about 14-15 years. This inspection may be carried out for all types of aircraft or Boeing aircraft only.
Previously, in just 3 days, 5 Boeing 737-300 and Airbus A320 aircraft of American Airlines had to make emergency landings due to holes in the aircraft, electrical short circuits, collisions with birds and smoke coming from the cockpit.
