Mobile court to try loggers who "murdered" 3 Sa mu trees

The four subjects include: Luong Van Tam (born in 1975), residing in Muong Phu village, Thong Thu commune; Vi Van Hoai (born in 1979), residing in Muong Phu village, Thong Thu commune; Vi Van Binh (born in 1994), residing in Muong Phu village, Thong Thu commune; and Cao Minh Quyet (born in 1986), residing in Hamlet 3, Muong Ham, Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district.

Evidence used to illegally exploit Sa mu dau wood was seized.

These are the subjects that the joint patrol team of Hanh Dich Border Guard Station, the Police and the Hanh Dich Commune Team, the Management Board of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve coordinated to patrol the Vietnam - Laos border and caught red-handed at 1:00 p.m. on July 3, 2015 while illegally exploiting Sa Mu Dau wood (at Khoanh 11, Sub-area 59, in the core area of ​​the special-use forest of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve). On July 9 and 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Que Phong District Police initiated criminal proceedings; indicted the above subjects.

The source also said that according to Decree 160/ND-CP, the Sa mu dau tree belongs to the "List of endangered, precious, rare species prioritized for protection"; the total volume of illegally exploited wood is very large, up to 235,240m3, so these subjects have committed the crime of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection" stipulated in Clause 2, Article 175 of the Penal Code.
