On the same day, Mr. Haike Manning came to work in Nghia Dan district, visited the TH milk factory and inspected the dam safety project in the Song Sao lake area. Currently, the TH milk project has imported about 30 thousand dairy cows from New Zealand. This is the largest dairy cow supply project that New Zealand has implemented in Vietnam. Despite the harsh climate conditions, thanks to the application of high technology, the cows have developed very well, with milk productivity guaranteed as if raised in New Zealand. In the coming time, when the dairy cow farming project enters the completion stage, TH Milk Joint Stock Company will continue to import more cows from New Zealand. The Ambassador affirmed that the success of the dairy cow supply project is an important premise for New Zealand and Nghe An to have the next steps of cooperation in the field of high-tech agriculture.

Currently, New Zealand is implementing the project “Vietnam - New Zealand Research on Dam and Floodplain Safety” with a total budget of 2.5 million New Zealand dollars within 3 years. The project focuses on building and piloting a model on dam and risk management based on the experience that the private and public sectors have gathered from best practices in New Zealand to replicate in Vietnam. At the foot of the Song Sao dam, the ambassador and the delegation directly inspected a number of items of the project, learned about the impact of the reservoir's flood discharge during the rainy season on people's lives, etc.

Next, the Ambassador visited the family of Mrs. Tran Thi Mai in Binh Nghia hamlet, Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district, one of the households that is often severely flooded at the foot of Song Sao dam. In 2013, continuous rain and floods, the release of floodwater from Song Sao reservoir combined with rising water from downstream caused her family to be flooded more than 2 meters deep, forcing the family to evacuate to higher ground. Here, the Ambassador inquired about the situation and affirmed that the New Zealand government will cooperate better with relevant Vietnamese agencies to find ways to minimize damage to people in flood-affected areas and ensure the safety of the dam.
