SEA Games 27: Host Myanmar has a shortage of hotels

December 4, 2013 17:07

Never before has Myanmar been in such a shortage of hotel and motel rooms as it is now. Tourists and reporters are wondering how to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games.

According to information on Myanmar hotel and tourism websites, most of the rooms have been booked in advance and are fully booked at this time. Tourists have no choice but to contact Vietnamese travel agencies but are facing difficulties.

Mr. Do Cong Duc, an employee of Trail of Indochina, said that this is a new market. Although his company has a representative in Myanmar, his employees cannot find hotel rooms in Naypyitaw for guests. The option of renting private houses is also difficult because not many people are interested in renting.

Reporters are also suffering because the room rates are too high. The average price is over 200 USD/double room. Some hotels and motels allow additional guests but the price increases, up to over 300 USD/day/room.

Not only are hotels difficult to find, private rental properties are also quite calculated. There are apartments that are government headquarters that are cleaned to support tourists. That is why even though the price is very cheap (because there are no equipment, beds, internet...), reporters still cannot rent them.

For private houses, many are willing to support but are limited in terms of time. The rental price is usually from 50-100 USD depending on the house or room but the tenant cannot stay too long, usually only 5-7 days. Experienced people said that at the moment, the only way to contact the SEA Games Organizing Committee is to contact them.
